SunGuard Opens Third Philly Data Center

February 18, 2009 by

Webmaster NewsWayne, Pa. – SunGard Availability Services has opened a third data center in Philadelphia that will provide its customers with IT infrastructure and managed services to help ensure their business systems are always up and running. SunGard has invested $25 million in the new 120,000 square foot facility in Philadelphia which will help customers avoid capital and operating costs associated with building and operating their own data centers.

With a total of 350,000 square feet of operations space among its three Philadelphia facilities, SunGard’s concentration of business continuity and disaster recovery facilities is the largest in Philadelphia and is expected to attract more than 30,000 customer visits this year. SunGard Availability Services employs more than 400 employees in Philadelphia while SunGard overall employs 2,700 employees in the Greater Philadelphia region.

“The new facility extends SunGard’s position in providing a robust, resilient infrastructure,” said Arjun Moorthy, vice president of infrastructure at SunGard Availability Services. “It is a state-of-the-art data center in terms of systems redundancy, uptime and efficiency. The center also supports best practices in energy efficiency to help advance both SunGard’s and its customers’ sustainability strategies.”

SunGard’s managed IT services allow customers to run business systems and applications at a SunGard facility rather than build and support their own data centers. SunGard solutions include hosting services, application services, e-mail and collaboration services, network services, managed security services, storage services and replication services. These solutions are suited to organizations that require a secure, highly available and redundant IT environment.

“This new facility provides customers with advanced IT capabilities and frees up their IT resources for more strategic endeavors within their organization,” said Dave Colesante, senior vice president and managed services general manager at SunGard Availability Services. “Leveraging SunGard helps customers to lower data center costs while also helping improve system and application uptime.”

Designed to deliver highly available hosted solutions, the new facility includes a data center that has multi-platform support. It has a redundant power infrastructure with two independent power sources – each of which can power the building – and an emergency back-up generator. The facility has advanced security and environmental monitoring and is equipped with a redundant HVAC system that incorporates best practices to maintain a stable and energy efficient environment. The center also provides customers with workstations so they can conduct business on-site.
