Limestone Networks now offers secure server access via Google’s G1 mobile phone

April 7, 2009 by

Web Hosting ToolsDallas, TX – Limestone Networks, Inc., the Dallas-based dedicated hosting company, is the first such company to enable full server management through an Android-based application on the new Google G1 mobile phone.

“The app gives our customers secure access through our API using their G1 phone, and is free to Limestone customers,” says Gary Kendall, CEO of Limestone Networks. “Basically, it lets them use all the features of our proprietary API, which they now use on their desktop and laptop computers.”

Kendall adds: “That means even if the only Internet access they have is through their mobile G1 phone, they can still see and manage all their servers and accounts, just as though they were at their desks: they can power servers up and down, retrieve bandwidth stats and graphs, activate services, review and pay open invoices, update trouble tickets – and a lot more.”

To use the interface on the Google phone, simply open the Rockware application. It’s named Rockware after the name of its web counterpart that customers use to manage their accounts at Limestone. From the main menu, select Servers, Billing, Support, or Settings, then select from wide array of options and actions.

Kendall notes that the Google G1 phone has an iPhone-like interface and is popular with programmers and network technicians. That, plus its compatibility with Android’s open source platform, made it an easy choice for Limestone’s first foray into mobile server management.
