Netnod Installs WDM System at TelecityGroup Stockholm Data Center

Web Hosting ServicesSTOCKHOLM – Netnod, the Swedish Internet Exchange, has installed a wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) system – a technique of sending signals of several different wavelengths of light simultaneously into fibre-optic cable – at TelecityGroup’s (LSE:TCY) carrier neutral Mariehällsvägen data centre in Stockholm. The move will lead to significantly lower prices for Netnod members that connect at the facility, enabling low-cost, high capacity peering for ISPs moving traffic across Netnod’s network infrastructure in Sweden.

Internet Exchanges such as Netnod form an essential part of the global internet infrastructure, enabling the large-scale switching of traffic between ISPs. The reduction in the cost of fibre used in the WDM system has enabled Netnod to reclassify its pricing, with potential savings for members of up to 85,000 SEK – over 8,000 Euros – per year.

Kurt Erik Lindqvist, Netnod CEO said: “As shown by its patronage of Euro-IX and its vast experience of hosting internet exchanges across Europe, TelecityGroup provides an ideal environment for housing the critical infrastructure which is at the heart of the global digital economy. We’re delighted that this extension of our relationship with the Group will result in lower prices for our members who connect through the facility.”

Alongside Netnod, TelecityGroup also hosts three of the busiest European IXPs across its European data centre estate: AMS-IX in Amsterdam; LINX in London and DE-CIX in Frankfurt.
