Interxion Opens Second Dublin Data Center

April 1, 2010 by

Web Hosting ToolsThe Netherlands – Interxion, a leading European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centers, today announced the opening of its second Dublin data center, DUB2, at Park West. Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources officially opened the new data center on behalf of the Irish government. The expansion was required to meet growing customer demand for energy-efficient, high-power-density colocation infrastructure and outsourced managed services. The new data center will provide an additional 2,455m2 of gross space, increasing Interxion’s overall capacity to 4,755m2.

With a redundant 4 MVA grid connection, the data center supports the latest high-density power configuration requirements. It offers 2N UPS power and N+1 cooling, as well as advanced alarm and monitoring systems. Furthermore, the site has been designed using Interxion’s energy-efficient modular architecture, with free cooling and maximum-efficiency components as standard. Power monitoring and management systems also enable customers to monitor their power usage, streamlining their operations to optimise Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).

“The Irish Government has prioritised energy efficient ICT and the establishment of new data centers in our framework for economic renewal. With our temperate climate, Ireland is one of the best locations for the construction of data centers internationally and this provides us with a real competitive advantage.” said Eamon Ryan TD, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources. “Interxion has clearly recognised these advantages, in establishing its second data center here in Park West. This is a company that is focussed on energy-efficient operations, on delivering green jobs, and I wish them the very best in their endeavours”

“We would like to thank the 90+ people involved in the completion of this complex data center construction project. The completion of the project means that we are able to further strengthen Park West’s reputation as a key ICT hub and continue to meet demand for data center space in the region, from all sectors of the market,” said Tanya Duncan, Managing Director, Interxion Ireland.  “Our modular build-out approach and lean infrastructure design enables us to offer energy-efficient and cost-effective data center services, both of which are of great appeal to Irish customers. The quick uptake of our services has meant that we are already at 50 percent capacity in the new facility, which means we have been able to further enhance the PUE for the data center.”

Interxion’s business in Ireland has grown significantly since its establishment in 2001. A major part of this growth comes from telecoms providers, enterprises and other technology companies that are seeking carrier and vendor-neutral infrastructure combined with a constant focus on customer satisfaction. Interxion is a cofounder of the EMEA Chapter Uptime institute, as well as a contributory member of The Green Grid and The EC Joint Research center on Sustainability.
