April 29, 2010 by

Web Hosting ServicesThe Netherlands – Interxion, a leading European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centers, today announced that Lex Coors, Vice President, Data Center Technology and Engineering at Interxion, has accepted the role of head judge for the Data Centre Efficiency and Green Enterprise IT Awards (GEIT), to be hosted at the Uptime Institute Symposium 17–19 May 2010 in New York. The event is one of the most influential on the IT industry and data centre operator calendar, as it is one of few that focuses entirely on data centre efficiency and green enterprise IT.

Symposium 2010 is designed to bring together stakeholders in enterprise IT, finance, executive management, data center facilities and design engineering to deal with the critical issues surrounding the continuous global expansion of enterprise computing and its energy demands. Delegates will also have opportunities to meet with The 451 Group, Tier1 and Uptime Institute analysts and experts on a one-to-one basis to discuss strategy concerns specific to their organizations.

“The principal objective of the GEIT Awards is to educate the global data center and IT industries in effective ways to reduce energy consumption by highlighting innovation and best practices,” said Andy Lawrence, Program Director of the Uptime Institute Symposium and Research Director of Eco-efficient IT, The 451 Group. “The Institute grants these awards to projects, ideas, and products submitted by organisations from around the world.  This year we received a record number of entries, an increase of over 50% from last year, which is in line with the increased prioritisation companies place on greener data centres and IT in general.”

“We are delighted to have been asked to fulfill such a key role as this at such a prestigious and important industry event, especially at a time when sustainability and green IT are becoming ever more paramount for businesses,” said Kevin Dean, Chief Marketing Officer Interxion. “It’s testament and recognition for our hard work and dedication at investing time and energy into the green agenda and delivering practical enterprise solutions – and the fact that we have designed, built and operate more than 55,000m² of data center space in 27 locations in 11 countries. It is also a strong reflection of our long standing partnership with the Uptime Institute, something that we value enormously.”

Interxion is a founder member of the Uptime Institute’s European Chapter, a member of the European Commission DG Joint Research Committee on Sustainability and the European Data Center Code of Conduct Metrics Group. Through Lex it also acts as liaison officer for The Green Grid in their collaboration with the European Commission, and he is a member of the Executive Advisory Board for the Uptime Institute.
