FireHost Joins PCI Security Standards Council as newest Participating Organization

December 3, 2010 by

Web Host ServicesDALLAS, TX – FireHost, a secure Web hosting company, announced today that it has joined the PCI Security Standards Council. As a new Participating Organization, FireHost will work with the Council to evolve and adopt the PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) and other payment card data protection standards

In this role, FireHost will continue the pursuit of providing affordable, compliance ready Web hosting solutions to companies who may not otherwise achieve the PCI DSS requirements.

“FireHost was created with the sole purpose of securing online data and takes a vested interest in ensuring that credit card numbers are protected from online threats that grow more complex each and every day. We feel that working closely with the Council and various Special Interest Groups within it will help proliferate the goal of getting more business web applications up to code,” said Chris Drake, CEO and founder of FireHost. “We are eager to apply our experience and help shape the guidelines for safe storage, transmission and handling of credit card data.”

As a Participating Organization, FireHost will now have access to the latest payment card security standards from the Council, be able to provide feedback on the standards, and become part of a growing community that now includes more than 500 organizations. In an era of increasingly sophisticated cyber-attacks on systems, adhering to the PCI DSS represents an entity’s best protection against data criminals. By joining as a Participating Organization, FireHost is adding its voice and significant real-world expertise to the process.

“The PCI Security Standards Council is committed to helping everyone involved in the payment chain protect consumer payment data,” said Bob Russo, General Manager of the PCI Security Standards Council. “By participating in the standards setting process, FireHost demonstrates they are playing an active part in helping companies of all sizes achieve this important end goal.”

The PCI DSS, endorsed by American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Inc., requires merchants and service providers that store, process or transmit customer payment card data to adhere to information security controls and processes that ensure data integrity.
