March 9, 2012 by

Web Hosting ServicesTAMPA, FL – Hivelocity Hosting announced it was already taking pre-orders for their new Intel E5-2600 Romley Xeon server line. These new processors are Intel’s latest server processor built on the Sandy Bridge platform and are the newest edition to the higher end Xeon family of chips. With hardware suppliers like Dell and Supermicro just making these systems available on Tuesday of this week, Hivelocity has estimated a lead-time of 1 week on all new orders.

“Our customers are increasingly utilizing our dedicated servers for virtualization and cloud environments. The new Romley processors were built with virtualization and cloud in mind and we know our customers are going to love them,” says Hivelocity’s General Manager Steve Eschweiler. “More cores, more power and more efficiency, it is a win win situation. We gain power and efficiency in the data center and our customers get more bang for their buck. We have been anticipating the launch of the E5 for a long time and are thrilled the day has finally come to get one fired up in our data center.”

Intel claims the new Romleys will improve performance by 80% over the previous generation of Nehalem and Westmere processors. Romley Processor are dual socket chips that have either 4, 6 or 8 cores per processor. Hivelocity offers these new systems in both single processor or dual processor configurations, giving its customers the ability to purchase up to 16 physical cores of processing power. Just like its predecessor, the Romley processors will allow a system to go online with just 1 processor socket populated and scale to a 2nd processor with only a new chip being added and a reboot required.
