Web Hosting Services – Baltimore, MD – To meet growing market demand, 24/7 Mid-Atlantic Network is launching Transport and Ethernet Services across its footprint. 24/7 is deploying the Ciena 6500 Packet Optical Platform to provide flexible, high-speed, high-capacity bandwidth services and applications. Coupled with its Colocation and Dark Fiber services, 24/7 is now in a position to offer complete service flexibility to its customers.
“We are thrilled to enter into the lit services market. Coupled with our Colocation and Dark Fiber Services this is the next logical step to offer additional value to our customers,” said Sean Baillie, Chief Revenue Officer at 24/7. “Across the data center, wireless, enterprise, cable, and government sectors we see high-capacity bandwidth needs continue to grow. Our customers have specific requirements: flexible service options, fast quote turnaround, competitive pricing, and rapid installations. The Ciena 6500 Platform enables us to meet these demands now and into the future. Our competition will have some work to do to keep up with us in how nimbly we operate.”
The company is building core routes that will interconnect Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Ashburn, Virginia. On these paths 24/7 will offer an unprecedented 24-hour turn-up guarantee on 10G services. Along with its long-haul assets, 24/7 has deep metro assets in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., with thousands of near-net buildings and extensive reach throughout the data center community in Ashburn, Virginia. The needs of individual customers will vary and 24/7 can accommodate accordingly with its wide array of Ethernet and Wavelength service options.
“Our core routes will serve a well-established community of buyers that have high-capacity demands”, added Baillie, “and our unique value is flexibility and operating speed. This same value also applies to our metro networks as we are connecting additional enterprise buildings, data centers, military installations, and tower locations, among other applications to our core network; we are moving customer data wherever it ultimately needs to go throughout our footprint. Our close relationship with Ciena is extremely important in fulfilling our commitment to our customers.”
Architected for network modernization, the 6500 converges comprehensive Ethernet, TDM, and WDM capabilities into one platform for cost-effective delivery of emerging and existing services. With its integrated intelligence allowing for plug and play capacity, the 6500 will allow 24/7 to meet its customers’ growing demand for bandwidth capacity—at speeds of 100G and beyond—and to deliver custom services and applications with speed, flexibility, and assurance.
“We are helping 24/7 to build a cost-optimized, programmable network that can efficiently scale to support their government, service provider, and enterprise customers’ requirements,” said Chad Whalen, vice president and general manager, North America field operations, Ciena. “In addition, Ciena’s 6500 with intelligent WaveLogic coherent optical technology, part of our OPn programmable network architecture, enables 24/7 to differentiate themselves from their competitors and meet guarantees like their 24-hour service turn-up.”
The network will be operational in December 2013.
