CloudOpt Announces Data Acceleration Savings Evaluator for the Cloud

September 12, 2013 by

Web Hosting ServicesRedwood City, CA – CloudOpt™, experts in WAN optimization for the cloud, today announced the Speed-as-a-Service Savings Evaluator (SaaSSE) to help companies predict bandwidth savings that can be achieved using CloudOpt Speed-as-a-Service. This quick and easy optimization evaluator estimates bandwidth savings for initial transfers to the cloud (first pass) and recurring transfers to and from the cloud (second pass). Daily backup is an example of a recurring transfer. Using CloudOpt Speed-as-a-Service customers have achieved a 90% reduction in data transfer times and costs.

SaaSSE is free and can be downloaded at http://www.cloudopt.com. Running securely offline, it provides an instant savings assessment for first pass and second pass data transfers to and from the cloud when using CloudOpt Speed-as-a-Service. It works by analyzing the actual user files that are intended to be transferred to/from the cloud and provides results on a file by file basis. SaaSSE runs on Windows.

Speed-as-Service enables users to significantly enhance cloud application access and data movement. Gigabytes of data can now be moved to/from the cloud at a fraction of the cost and time that users are experiencing today. CloudOpt’s service enables rapid restoration of cloud backup data, near real time replication of databases across regions and full daily backups to the cloud. By reducing the amount of data transferred, bandwidth charges are significantly reduced.

Speed-as-a-Service is accessed using an easy to install Windows or Linux client that requires no networking expertise. Delivered as a service, costly and complex hardware or software appliances are not necessary.

The CloudOpt client intercepts data destined for addresses in popular public clouds; establishes a secure and encrypted connection to the Speed-as-a-Service network in the requested region; applies compression, deduplication, and protocol optimizations; and then delivers the data to its original destination within the specified cloud. Speed-as-a-Service remembers what data has been sent and does not resend data in subsequent transfers, which can result in over 90% improvement in transfer times.

“Companies often can’t find the time to evaluate promising new products,” said Dave Burow, CEO of CloudOpt. “Within minutes our new tool enables customers to predict how much bandwidth can be saved using Speed-as-a-Service.”
