DNS Made Easy Hits 50,000 ANAME Records in System

October 30, 2013 by · Comments Off on DNS Made Easy Hits 50,000 ANAME Records in System

Web Hosting ServicesReston, VA – DNS Made Easy (, the leading provider of IP Anycast managed DNS services, surpassed a record 50,000 configured ANAME records in their system this past month. The company was the first DNS provider in the world to revolutionize the way in which DNS zones are configured using the ANAME record. This high number of ANAME records shows a growing demand of users who need the extra functionality of creating these special ALIAS type of records. This is precisely why DNS Made Easy continues to see more clients opting for the ANAME record system.

ANAME records do not have the limitations that normal CNAME records have. When an ANAME record is created, DNS Made Easy resolves the target FQDN to an IP address or set of IP addresses. The company then synthesizes A records within the domain that point to the IP address or addresses of the FQDN. These record targets – the ANAME records – are monitored at all times, so if the IP address or addresses of the target do change, the synthesized A records within that domain are immediately updated at all DNS Made Easy name servers. That type of protection is most likely a reason for the spike in ANAME Records.

LeaseWeb finalizes first expansion of high-capacity CDN to meet customer demand in Europe and the U.S.

October 29, 2013 by · Comments Off on LeaseWeb finalizes first expansion of high-capacity CDN to meet customer demand in Europe and the U.S.

Web Hosting ServicesAmsterdam – LeaseWeb, one of the largest hosting providers in the world with more than 60,000 servers under management, today announced that it has completed the first expansion of its Content Delivery Network (CDN). In the four months following its launch, bandwidth usage increased to more than 150 Gbps. To support this growth, multiple SuperPoPs have been added to the platform’s infrastructure increasing capacity to 400 Gbps.

Four additional SuperPoPs
LeaseWeb has enhanced its CDN with four high-powered points of presence (PoPs) in Europe and the U.S., which utilize Enterprise solid-state drives for advanced file and video caching. Strategically placed in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., each SuperPoP currently offers 100 Gbps of bandwidth capacity. The SuperPoPs are part of the LeaseWeb network, one of the world’s largest IP networks, connecting 27 PoPs across the globe.

Ignacio Manrique de Lara, Manager CDN at LeaseWeb, says: “Since we entered the CDN market last June, we have seen our data delivery grow by more than eight times, so we had to quickly scale our operations upwards. This first expansion now actually positions us as one of the ten largest CDNs in the world in terms of bandwidth capacity.”

New CDN functionality
The software powering LeaseWeb CDN has been developed in-house. Numerous new features and upgrades have been added during this expansion, including:

• An intuitive control panel with real-time monitoring statistics to allow customers to optimize content distribution
• Instant purging of content to ensure continuously accurate data delivery
• Advanced origin protection to shield against DDoS attacks
• Full redundancy and high scalability due to double-deployed infrastructure and Geo-DNS

Manrique de Lara: “Feedback from our existing customers and prospects so far has been very positive. The control panel lets them easily create push and pull zones, while purge requests are sent and executed instantaneously. Our customers were also pleased with the advanced monitoring statistics, which are delivered in real-time. They say these features compare extremely favorably with our competitors.”

LeaseWeb plans to aggressively further expand the CDN infrastructure over the course of 2014 and introduce more functionality to the platform: “During the next phase of development we will deploy strategically placed SuperPoPs in Asia. We are also going to increase the features of our CDN,” says Manrique de Lara. “For example, we will supply additional analytics, in order to provide customers with more end-user insights. We also want to broaden the options for resellers to white-label our CDN.”

Pay-as-you-go and Enterprise
LeaseWeb CDN is available in two options, namely Pay-as-you-go and Enterprise. Pay-as-you-go provides flexibility with minimal upfront costs and no long-term commitment. Enterprise offers high-volume customers substantial cost savings over the Pay-as-you-go pricing, as well as options to tailor the platform to meet specific requirements. A 100% uptime SLA is included with both options.

Both solutions support HTTP live streaming (HLS), pseudo-streaming for video on demand, and the most popular codecs, including MP4, H264, Flash video (FLV), and VP8 (WebM). This makes LeaseWeb CDN suitable for the gaming, video streaming, and software distribution industries, amongst others.

CloudSigma Expands Public Cloud to Second U.S. Location with Equinix in Washington D.C.

October 29, 2013 by · Comments Off on CloudSigma Expands Public Cloud to Second U.S. Location with Equinix in Washington D.C.

Web Hosting ServicesPalo Alto, Calif. – CloudSigma, an international, customer-centric, pure-cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider, today announced that it has expanded its public cloud to a second U.S. location. In addition to its Las Vegas cloud at SwitchNAP, CloudSigma’s public cloud is now also available at Equinix’s DC6 International Business Exchange (IBX) in Washington D.C. With locations now spanning both the East and West coasts, CloudSigma can not only improve customers’ latency performance, but also provide a more convenient failover solution within U.S. borders for improved redundancy.

With CloudSigma’s dual-site U.S. hosting solution, customers can now more easily geo-balance workloads across multiple data centers, thereby keeping their data and mission-critical applications accessible in the event of a disaster or a system outage. For instance, customers already housing their data in CloudSigma’s Las Vegas-based cloud can now simply failover to its East Coast location or vice versa. What’s more, CloudSigma estimates that, if customers running Web-based services implement a two-site versus single-site U.S. location strategy, the end users of those Web services will see performance improvement of 100 percent on average latency based on key population centers.

The robust capabilities and features of Cloudera (as well as Hadoop in general) require significant levels of computing resources, more than typically found in cloud services built on virtualized technologies. With SoftLayer, customers have the power and resiliency that Cloudera delivers, with the flexibility and convenience of cloud infrastructure.

“Running big data applications on bare metal servers gives users both the raw performance and consistency they need to analyze vast amounts of data in real-time,” says Marc Jones, VP of Product Innovation for SoftLayer. “The ability to provision a large scale Hadoop cluster in just a few hours sets this offering apart with speed and agility. We’re pushing the envelope of what’s possible on the cloud by giving enterprises the power and flexibility they need to tackle the toughest workloads.”

Cloudera provides scalable and powerful solutions for managing and analyzing vast amounts of varied data. At the core of its Cloudera Standard and Cloudera Enterprise editions is the power of open-source Apache Hadoop software, a leading big data application. Cloudera Standard is a free download that combines entirely open source and enterprise-ready CDH (Cloudera’s Distribution including Apache Hadoop) with Cloudera Manager which provides robust cluster management capabilities like automated deployment, centralized administration, monitoring and diagnostic tools.

Cloudera Navigator, an add-on to Cloudera Enterprise, provides data management, technical support, indemnity, and open source advocacy. Cloudera Enterprise includes everything in Cloudera Standard plus an additional set of Cloudera Manager features and support for the core projects in CDH, enabling customers to store, process, and analyze more data, types and formats than legacy technology while being very cost effective.
