Web Hosting ServicesWayne, Pa. – SunGard Availability Services, a leading provider of information availability through managed IT, cloud and recovery services, today announced it has completed the implementation of a colocation service for Backblaze, Inc., a leading online backup provider, to provide massive data center expansion space for their unlimited data backup and recovery solution.

“Backblaze runs one of the largest cloud storage systems in the world and our IT needs have changed dramatically in the last few years. We needed a new data center partner, and SunGard Availability Services’ Sacramento colocation facilities were well-situated and a great space for our expansion,” said Gleb Budman, CEO of Backblaze. “Based in the safest geological area in California, SunGard Availability Services’ Rancho Cordova facility was optimal due to the low risk of tornadoes, floods and earthquakes, as well as the low cost.”

An IDC study found that data is doubling every two years, but IDC believes that only about a quarter of that data is being properly protected. To help protect consumer and business data, Backblaze offers easy-to-use, unlimited online backup services for just $5 per month per computer. The online backup service is built on their cloud storage system, which has drastically grown to house more than 85 petabytes of information today. Since 2007, Backblaze’s IT needs have grown too, from one cabinet of colocation space to more than 200 cabinets with the capacity for half an Exabyte (EB) of storage.

“SunGard Availability Services understands the environments that companies like Backblaze require to meet their growing IT needs, and we provide tailored availability solutions that can scale up or down to adjust to constantly changing environments,” said Jack Dziak, executive vice president and general manager of Managed Services, SunGard Availability Services. “The breadth of knowledge and experience we bring to the table, as well as our growing footprint in the western U.S., make SunGard Availability Services a reliable partner for Backblaze.”

SunGard Availability Services colocation and managed services allow organizations to run their business applications at a SunGard Availability Services facility rather than at their own data centers. SunGard Availability Services solutions include hosting services, application services, e-mail and collaboration services, network services, managed security services, storage services and replication services. These solutions are suited to organizations of all sizes that require a secure, highly available and redundant IT environment.
