SoftLayer Launches Asia-Pacific Operations

September 21, 2011 by · Comments Off on SoftLayer Launches Asia-Pacific Operations

Web HostingDALLAS — SoftLayer® Technologies, the innovation leader in Cloud, Dedicated, and Managed hosting, today announced the upcoming opening of the company’s new data center in Singapore and network Points of Presence (PoPs) in Singapore, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Beginning Sept. 23, customers can pre-order services in the new data center, to be deployed when the data center and PoPs officially “go live” on Oct. 3.

“We are excited to bring our unique solutions to hosting to the Asia-Pacific region,” said Lance Crosby, Chief Executive Officer for SoftLayer. “We’ve had an international customer base for quite some time, with almost half of our 23,000 customers coming from more than 140 countries besides the U.S. But we couldn’t be happier to now have a truly international presence, putting our industry-leading solutions so much closer to our customers and their countless end users.”

Designated SNG01, the new data center features the following:

SNG01 and the Tokyo and Hong Kong PoPs feature connectivity from multiple Tier-1 network carriers, including NTT, Tata, and Equinix, with direct network connections to SoftLayer facilities in San Jose and Los Angeles. With the strategic location of the Asia-Pacific operations and the exceptional speed of the SoftLayer network, customers and end users anywhere in the region can connect to SoftLayer services with less than 40ms of latency.

“Everything we do is designed to give customers more control, and this expansion is no different,” said George Karidis, Chief Strategy Officer for SoftLayer. “New and existing customers across the region will now have direct access through the SoftLayer Private Network to our automated platform. They can manage and deploy their Dedicated and Cloud services on their own terms—whether that’s in Singapore or in any of our other data centers. And they can provide an experience that’s better than ever for their end users in the region.”

The opening of the Asia facilities will soon be followed by the launch of SoftLayer’s Amsterdam data center and European PoPs, scheduled for early November. SoftLayer will then have 13 data centers and 16 PoPs worldwide. Each data center is functionally independent with distinct and redundant resources, as well as fully integrated with all SoftLayer facilities. The company’s global network fully integrates three distinct and redundant network architectures—Public, Private, and Data Center to Data Center—into the industry’s first Network-Within-a-Network topology for maximum accessibility, security, and control. SoftLayer Launches High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls

July 19, 2011 by · Comments Off on SoftLayer Launches High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls

Hosting ServicesDALLASSoftLayer® Technologies, the innovation leader in Cloud, Dedicated, and Managed Hosting, today announced the introduction of High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls to its lineup of security solutions. SoftLayer customers have the option of adding this high level of protection as a new service for current or new Cloud, Dedicated, or Virtual systems that share the same VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network).

“High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls provide our customers with greater peace of mind,” said Matt Chilek, Vice President of Systems Development and Technology at SoftLayer. “Unfortunately, malicious network activity can happen to anyone, so we’re dedicated to providing our customers with the best protection possible so they can focus on their business and not worry about the security of their infrastructure.”

High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls go beyond protecting servers from malicious activity. The service includes a secondary physical firewall for failover protection, and automatic fall back when the primary firewall regains service.

SoftLayer’s firewalls stand between the entire VLAN and the Public Network, analyzing and filtering all network traffic. With the company’s simple-to-use Customer Portal, customers can easily configure the firewall settings for the entire VLAN as well as for individual computing systems. The Portal also provides a library of templates for applying protection rules and configurations for specific applications. Current templates include mail and Web services, Parallels® Plesk, and cPanel.

High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls are the newest addition to SoftLayer’s selection of firewall security services, which includes Dedicated Hardware Firewalls and Standard Firewalls. All can be provisioned on demand and without service interruption through the company’s leading Customer Portal. The extra security of these firewalls complements SoftLayer’s effort to provide further individualization for each customer’s network security strategy to help them achieve even greater uptime, accessibility, and control.
