Logicworks Builds Hybrid-Cloud Infrastructure for AFSCME

July 20, 2010 by

Web Host ServicesNEW YORK – Logicworks, a leading provider of enterprise hosting and cloud solutions for high-availability applications and content, has been selected by the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), one of the largest and fastest growing labor unions in the US, to provide a hybrid-cloud infrastructure for their member database and support applications. Logicworks hosts AFSCME programs spanning membership services, training & education, and databases supporting worker rights, publications and advocacy services. In addition, Logicworks provides disaster recovery services for AFSCME’s critical data resources and applications.

With 1.6 million members in hundreds of different occupations – from administrative staff to nurses, corrections officers to bus drivers, child and home care providers to sanitation workers to EMTs – AFSCME organizes for social and economic justice in the workplace and through political action and legislative advocacy.

“Our Union is dependent on the AFSCME Enterprise Web site for anytime, anywhere access to critical union information and member details,” said Steve Gretsuk, Director, Department of Information Services, AFSCME. “We chose to work with Logicworks because they understood our needs and let us take advantage of a cost-saving private cloud while maintaining our database on ‘bare metal’ which ensures amazing performance. They also provide us with excellent customer support, system administration, and Disaster Recovery through Data Centers across the country.”

The hybrid-cloud infrastructure takes advantage of the benefits of cloud computing by using virtualized private cloud architecture to deliver, as needed, the applications while maintaining the database on dedicated servers and storage for improved performance. Using this model, AFSCME personnel are able to access their applications, which pull data from the non-virtualized database servers, without any loss of performance regardless of the demand placed on the infrastructure. The Logicworks hybrid-cloud infrastructure goes further than other offerings to deliver robust security by providing threat detectors, eliminating vulnerabilities, and managing log data, to ensure that members’ private records will be safe at all times.

“We are seeing a huge interest in private cloud infrastructure and in our hybrid-cloud model and are pleased to be able to work with AFSCME to support their application needs,” said Kenneth Ziegler, President and Chief Operating Officer, Logicworks. “Logicworks is providing the technology infrastructure that benefits the AFSCME members who ‘make America happen.’ We’re excited to be a part of that equation.”

Logicworks delivers the fully managed high-availability database and virtualized application architecture, managed security, and dedicated load balancing, all maintained by experienced round-the-clock staff. Logicworks designed a fully redundant, fault-tolerant architecture to ensure unsurpassed uptime and performance for AFSCME. The company also fulfills the role of the systems database administrator, installing database applications and setting up clustering and replication services, as well as database backups.
