SMB’s Lack of Knowledge of IT, Including Cloud Computing, Prohibits Adoption Even with Plans to Maintain or Increase Technology Spend

May 20, 2011 by · Comments Off on SMB’s Lack of Knowledge of IT, Including Cloud Computing, Prohibits Adoption Even with Plans to Maintain or Increase Technology Spend

Webmaster ToolboxCENTENNIAL, COLORADO & WASHINGTON – “You don’t know what you don’t know” may be the expression most appropriate for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMB) when it comes to the benefits of technology and their business, according to an independent survey of more than 500 SMB decision makers released at National Small Business Week.

The study, commissioned by Verio Inc., the leading provider of online business solutions to SMBs worldwide, showed that more than two-thirds of respondents are uncertain if they will purchase a Cloud solution in the near future. However, despite this lack of knowledge, respondents seek the benefits of a Cloud offering, with 21 percent citing the ability to share resources and 20 percent citing on-demand resources as important, showcasing a need for education on Cloud benefits specific to small businesses.

With the proper knowledge and education on Cloud technology, 20 percent of decision makers stated they were likely or very likely to implement a Cloud Computing solution in the next twelve months while almost 10 percent were likely or very likely to implement in the next three months.

“This data clearly demonstrates that there continues to be a need for educating SMBs on the benefits of Cloud and more importantly, correlating those benefits to their current IT requirements,” said Mitch Merrifield, Senior Director of Managed Computing Solutions for Verio. “SMBs want to drive efficiencies, and Cloud technologies are some of the most innovative solutions to assist them in doing that.”

The survey also found that 19 percent of SMB decision makers are looking to cut technology costs, an improvement from 30 percent from last year, so the SMB appetite to purchase IT solutions continues to grow. Other findings include a sustained focus on building out and maintaining IT infrastructure as well.

“There are several considerations, including use cases, benefits, applications and purchasing, when SMBs are deciding how to best implement IT solutions such as Cloud,” continued Merrifield. “We believe as their understanding of these key factors and benefits evolve, this will significantly contribute to the adoption of Cloud technologies in 2011 and beyond.”

May 19, 2011 by · Comments Off on Codero Shows How Cloud Hosting Is Eco-friendly inside a New Infographic

Webmaster ToolboxLenexa, Kansas – With its launch of Cloud hosting services, Codero is further reinforcing its commitment to sustainable practices along with providing customers with an affordable way to scale their IT resources. Cloud hosting service is a beneficial IT strategy for those who rely upon a hosting service and need the ability to scale based on load, but also want to control costs. Codero’s latest infographic demonstrates how the cloud saves money while meeting sustainable business practices.

Cloud is an alternative to running all applications within a traditional data center and is very energy-efficient as depicted by the infographic.  A 2011 study by Microsoft determined large companies running applications in the Cloud can reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by 30%, while small businesses could achieve even greater energy savings … up to 90% per user.

Said Shelby Garlock, Director, Marketing of Codero, “At Codero, we are committed to providing the latest technology to our customers while keeping their costs down and maintaining sustainable business practices. This infographic powerfully demonstrates how our new Cloud offering achieves both.”

Cloud computing addresses the environmental issues by reducing data center real estate requirements and driving down power and cooling costs involved. The operational flexibility of Cloud, combined with its cost savings, is a benefit to those needing two or multiple servers. Paying for service on demand requires less upfront capital. Businesses can ramp up or down based upon current needs, which is one reason demand for Cloud is on the rise. A Gartner survey stated 39% of respondents worldwide indicated they allocated IT budgets to Cloud as a key initiative this year.
